Kick-off event with Othmar Karas, Evelyn Regner and Claudia Gamon in Vienna
The teachers of 20 schools started the ambassadorial school program of the European Parliament for the school year 2021/22 on Monday, November 8th, 2021 with a full-day seminar in the House of the European Union in Vienna. EP Vice-President Othmar Karas (ÖVP) and MEPs Evelyn Regner (SPÖ) and Claudia Gamon (Neos), conversely, the MPs praised the commitment in the participating schools.
Othmar Karas: “It is always a great pleasure for me to be able to contribute to the success story of the EU ambassadorial schools. If we continue to succeed in inspiring teachers and pupils to work intensively on Europe, then I am not worried about the future of the EU. I would like to thank everyone involved for their commitment and wish them every success in everyday school life. I’m already looking forward to our next meeting at the ambassador schools. “
Evelyn Regner: “The project of the EU ambassador schools is a success story and I am looking forward to the exchange with many committed teachers. For the pupils, the EU is part of normal everyday life; Open borders, the euro and a united Europe are their everyday lives. The EU ambassador schools take this fact into account by integrating the EU as a constant in the classroom. I am happy to announce many new educational institutions in the project. “
Claudia Gamon: “The Ambassador Schools are a great project to bring Europe closer to the next generation at school. It is nice to see how committed teachers work to make Europe tangible for the pupils. “
Commitment to European politics is rewarded
The candidate schools for the title “Ambassador School of the European Parliament” take part in a specially developed European and democratic political program. This program includes training activities for teachers and school activities related to European integration, democracy and the values of the EU.
If these schools meet all of the criteria at the end of the program, they will in future be allowed to call themselves the “European Parliament Ambassador School”. At the same time, YOU will become part of an EU-wide network of around 1,500 schools that maintain particularly close cooperation with the European Parliament. The program has existed in Austria since 2017. So far, 75 schools from all federal states have been certified.
