The lack of water is to prevent the interconnection of the Vysočina and South Moravia systems
The commissioning of unused resources or the interconnection of water supply pipelines helps to improve the water situation. “Now it is offered to connect Židlochovice in the Brno region, where the Vírský vodovod ends, with Pasohlávky, where several municipalities could be connected,” said regional councilor Vladimír Šmerda. The estimated cost would be about 130 million crowns.
In the autumn, the governors of the South Moravian Region and the Vysočina Region signed a memorandum on the interconnection of water supply systems. “The task of elaborating a feasibility study for the interconnection of water supply systems in the territory of both regions is currently being prepared. So far, these are twenty-four priority events, ten in the Vysočina region and fourteen in the south of Moravia, “said Jaroslav Mikyna, head of the water management department at the Vysočina regional authority.
According to Šmerda, a competition will be announced soon. “The estimated costs are about eight million crowns, each region will give half,” he said. He believes that the results will be within a year.
Both regions already connect important water sources such as the Vír water reservoir and the Vranov water reservoir.
The Ministry of Agriculture is also in favor of interconnecting water systems. “We support securing and ensuring greater resilience of water supply infrastructure and preventing possible impacts of drinking water shortages, such as increasing the capacity of existing sources or interconnecting water supply systems,” said ministry spokesman Vojtěch Bílý.
What about water:
The recent drought has highlighted the maximum capacity of water resources.
The commissioning of unused resources or the interconnection of water supply pipelines helps to improve the water situation.
The governors of the South Moravian Region and the Vysočina Region signed a joint memorandum in the autumn.
The plan is to develop a detailed project.
According to Milan Vojta, Director of Waterworks and Sewerage in Břeclav, the interconnection of systems is the right idea that can help in accidents or during periods of drought. “But only from more proposed measures, such as new reservoirs, use of gray water, landscape measures and more,” he said.
Vojta described the connection of the Břeclav Water Supply and Sewerage System and the Vírský Regional Water Supply as conceivable, but in reality it would take ten years or more. “In addition, the analysis points to future capacity problems with the supply of the Brno agglomeration, which is supplied with whirlpool water,” he said.
For representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, problems with water scarcity are crucial. Among other things, it seeks changes in the law. “In particular, it is an amendment to the Water Act, which introduced operational management of drought management with the possibility of declaring a state of water shortage,” Bílý mentioned.
Councilor Šmerda even likened the meaning of water to the story Salt over Gold. “If the connection to the house breaks, it’s a problem. When the feeder to the village and the village does not have water for three or four days, it is a huge problem and it is not possible to supply everything with tanks, “he indicated.
Šmerda has previously stated that the interconnection of water supply systems will cost tens of billions of crowns and will take decades. The representatives of the Vysočina Region think the same. “Only preparatory work, finding a suitable investor (builder), processing project documentation of individual buildings, resolving property rights to the affected land, land and construction proceedings and other preparatory work will take many years. It can be estimated that most constructions will have a horizon of ten or more years, “says Mikyna.
