In Toulouse, noise reduction radar will soon be tested
Like seven other French cities, Toulouse will discover a noise reduction radar at the end of November or at the beginning of December. Ultimately, these radars will allow the owners of vehicles that are too noisy to be sanctioned.
The city of Toulouse has applied to study a radar that will flash, not the speed, but the noise of vehicles. After publication of a decree, Toulouse should set up this device at the end of November or at the beginning of December, like seven other cities in France. The radar should be installed in the Jolimont district.
ACOEM, manufacturer of acoustic equipment for about thirty years, will be in charge of this experiment which will last three months. The Lyon company has been working on this new type of antenna for about two years.
A two-year global experiment
“This system will make it possible to extract a predefined source, to quantify its emissions and to locate with precision”, specifies Kévin Cormier, acoustics and vibration manager within the company. Coupled with cameras, acoustic sensors and artificial intelligence will provide “an increased view of noise pollution in real conditions of use. “.
These first three months constitute the first phase of an experiment which should last nearly two years.
After analysis of the results and approval of the system, the State will have to define the decibel thresholds above which it wishes to penalize road users. The radars developed by ACOEM will also be tested in Nice, in the Chevreuse valley and in Rueil-Malmaison. According to Kévin Cormier, the company receives more and more requests from abroad. “Transport noise is a growing concern which is not unique to France. “
