Toulouse: in Montaudran, a footbridge over the planned ring road
A footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists will link the Montaudran district in full urbanization around the old Air France runway and the Rangueil scientific complex, on the Lespinet side, by crossing the ring road. Toulouse Métropole, which is leading the project, relaunched, at its last meeting on October 14, the procedure for appointing members of the tender committee which sits on the jury for the project management competition. The objective is to connect the new district of Montaudran, called Toulouse Aerospace, where, after La Machine et son Minotaure, a UGC cinema has just opened, as well as numerous buildings, and the scientific complex and, beyond, the cycle path of the canal du midi.
The structure will be around one hundred meters long. A first part will span the ring road for about fifty meters, at a height of about six meters, without support. And the second, on the Montaudran side, will pass over Avenue Bernard-Maris and a hydraulic retention basin. The project involves the planting of some sixty trees. And the entire route will be accessible to people with reduced mobility.
Opening in 2025
The project is the subject of a project management competition. Three multidisciplinary teams were selected to offer their vision for the project. The Metropolis indicates that the winner will be selected at the beginning of 2022. The studies will then be launched in 2022 and 2023. The site is scheduled for 2024 and 2025 and the opening during 2025, according to the schedule available today. The cost of the work is estimated at € 9 million. A consultation phase is also scheduled with the inhabitants and users of the neighborhoods concerned once the sketch of the footbridge is available.
The footbridge is a continuation of two underground passages which allow pedestrians and cyclists to pass under the Toulouse-Narbonne railway line and which relieve the new district in the old district of Montaudran and Gonin.
