The Green University and Green Agriculture in Prague won the Adapterra Awards
The prize for the capital was won by the project Sustainable Management in Prague 12. Lands in the vicinity of the city here a few years ago, the city district divided smaller blocks using between, draws and alleys of trees. There are permaculture orchards, an area for growing vegetables and herbs, a flowery meadow, alleys and a wetland.
“In Prague 12, another inspiring example was created for municipalities to manage economically, to contribute to the growth of biodiversity and the adaptation of the landscape to climate change. The projects in this competition are entirely in the spirit of Prague’s climate commitment, specifically its part on adaptation measures to climate change, “said Petr Hlubuček, Deputy Minister for the Environment (STAN).
In the Working Environment category, the new Tropical Agriculture Pavilion on the campus of the Czech University of Agriculture won for using heat pumps and photovoltaic panels, as well as a green façade and roof, which captures rainwater, which it uses to flush toilets.
University botanists take care of the green roof. The project was created so that the operation of the building will be sustainable in the future in terms of operating costs and the negative impact of human activities on nature. “At the same time, everything is designed with the needs of teaching and research in mind,” says the university.
According to its coordinator Andrey Křivánková from the Partnership Foundation, there is a growing interest in projects every year, so they had to be awarded in new categories that were not in previous years. “This year, in addition to the categories Free Landscape, Built-up Areas, Work Environment and Our Home, we also awarded the Sympathy Award to the winner of the Internet voting, the Prague Award and awards for two projects on the Czech-Austrian border,” said Křivánková.
The public decided with its votes in an internet vote that the project of 200 kilometers of alleys under the Blaník mountain would receive the Sympathy Award. Thanks to systematic planting, it was possible to restore 313 alleys with a total of about 30,000 trees. “The vote lasted two and a half months, from mid-August to mid-October, everyone could take part. In total, over 7,400 people from all over the Czech Republic voted. The winning project received 1,783 votes. This year, there was also a vote in Austria regarding projects on the Austrian border, in which three thousand thousand Kušans took part, “said Křivánková.
The Our Home Award also traveled to the Central Bohemian Region. I got it the project Home Podhradí in Týnec nad Labem in the Kolín region. In the Free Landscape category, the non-grazing management of forests near Klokočná in Prague-East succeeded. The trees have not been cut down here for more than 30 years, but are mined individually with a saw. The forest stand has several high floors and there is no formation of clearings, which overheat and dry excessively. This makes the forest more resistant to bark beetles and drought.
