Mercedes tuner Hofele at the Auto Zürich Car Show 2021
There was a time when the cigars would have slipped out of the corners of the mouth of the Mercedes directors of the Daimler carpet floor in view of these orgies made of chrome and leather or 24-inch rims in jet turbine design. Today Mercedes is involved with AMG itself in the tuning business and gets along well with companies like Brabus – or like Hofele-Design, which also acts as a manufacturer.
What would a car show like the Auto Zürich Car Show be without such refiners? The tuning scene, which is often unjustly ridiculed, is the one in which fans with a particularly hearty overdose of gasoline (or now electricity, see here) in their blood keep an entire industry going in order to differentiate themselves individually.
Rich chrome and the finest leather
At the large (one might quickly say in this context: fat) stand at Auto Zürich, Mercedes contract partner Hofele holds up the flag of optical refinement with six cars. You can see XL wheels, an almost indecent amount of chrome, but also interiors that are perfectly composed in terms of color and quality, which even correspond to the decorative lines or the color of the brake calipers. And one of the G-Classes (called HG at Hofele) even has opposite doors to the rear.

Because the clocks in the scene are still ticking a bit wilder, models on high heels on the booth at the show opening could not be missing. What is missing are not Hofele’s own opulent leather armchairs in the rear – but the star at the front. The Hofele logo is emblazoned here, legally a Hofele complete vehicle is no longer a Mercedes. But of course you can still mount the star later.
Renowned Swabian tuner
In between you think you hear a Swabian accent. That makes sense: Hofele-Design GmbH came to Auto Zürich from the German Donzdorf east of Stuttgart. The company was founded in 1983 by Martin Hofele, later joined by his brother Michael. A family forge that makes the fans shine: That too makes Auto Zürich a “real” auto show.
By the way: Hofeles can also be seen in Zurich after Auto Zurich. Hofele also has a car lounge at Autowelt Schweiz on Zurich’s Badenerstrasse.
