The aggravation of the internal political situation causes anxiety in Russia, which causes a catalyst for the ongoing external forces, announced to the Security Council on November 3 by UN Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya.
“We are concerned about yet another exacerbation of the internal political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, unprecedented in the entire post-war period. The situation is aggravated by the irresponsible actions of a number of external forces. As a result of all the achievements of the long-term and difficult process of interethnic reconciliation, they were under a serious threat, ”he said.
Nebenzya added that Russia, as one of the guarantors of the Dayton Accords, cannot remain indifferent to what is happening.
“We will not put up with our colleagues with a disdainful attitude towards the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina, behind which there is an unwanted exit from the image of the guardian of BiH, who has the right to dictate to the Bosnians how they should build their statehood and rule the country” – quotes the diplomat “RIA News“.
In mid-October, Russian Ambassador to Sarajevo Igor Kalabukhov, in an interview with Izvestia, reported that a significant part of the responsibility for aggravating the political situation in BiH on the former High Representative Valentina Inzko – the crisis began after he introduced a ban on denial of the “genocide” in Srebrenica in July 2021.
Domestic political disagreements in Bosnia and Herzegovina arose between members of the presidium: Zeljko Komšić, elected from the local Croats, Shefik Jaferovic from Bosniacs, on the one hand, and the Serbian representative, on the other.
After the introduction by the former High Representative for BiH, Valentin Inzko, a law criminalizing denial of the genocide in Srebrenica during the shooting of the Muslim male population by Serb forces in July 1995, contradictions erupted between Bosnian politicians in official Sarajevo and Serb politicians in Banja Luka.
In July, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Moscow considers the provision on punishment for denial of the genocide in Srebrenica, introduced in the Criminal Code, to be “gross interference” in the internal affairs of BiH. Approved by the Steering Committee of the Peace Implementation Council of the line on transferring responsibility to the Bosnian parties, indicated in the Russian foreign ministry department.
