Photo artist A. LUI Gmeiner asserts himself against 700 artists with art against violence against women
Klagenfurt / Innsbruck / Vienna (pts016 / 03.11.2021 / 11:40) – It was the 25th edition of ART Innsbruck and therefore the anniversary event of this renowned international art fair in the heart of Tyrol. The highlight and last item on the program of the fair was the awarding of the first ART Innsbruck art prize to several artists whose works could be seen at the fair. The jury award went to A. LUI Gmeiner from Carinthia, who presented a clear statement against violence against women with the series “Cutted Girls”. A. Aesthetic photographs and yet: destruction of the female body
In her laudation, trade fair director Johanna Penz emphasizes: “In the Cutted Girl series, LUI Gmeiner refers to the unique cut patterns by the Italian avant-garde artist Lucio Fontana or Bonalumi, for example. His idea of cutting surfaces is set in a modern and critical context by aesthetic flawless female bodies.
ART Innsbruck collected for the Innsbruck women’s shelter
How much the topic of “violence against women” moves is shown by the fact that ART Innsbruck organized a charity campaign at the fair in conjunction with the Lions Club, 100 percent of which is donated to the Tyrolean women’s refuge because the violent ones Attacks on women, especially during the pandemic, have intensified.
