You die, kill another in the concert hall
COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) – Two men died when one of them jumped or fell from the seventh floor of a cultural center in Sweden and landed on the other, police say.
The 80-year-old man who crashed into the lobby at Uppsala Concert and Congress Hall on Tuesday night died at the scene north of Stockholm and the 60-year-old man he beat died later, the police state.
A woman who was with the 60-year-old man was injured but her injuries were not considered life-threatening, the police state.
A tribute concert to the two male members of ABBA, Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, had been planned at the culture house on Tuesday night, but the event was canceled, according to Swedish media.
ABBA tweeted on Wednesday that they were waiting to release the band’s commercial concert trailer until Thursday in light of “the tragic news at the tribute concert in Sweden last night.”
In September, the Swedish superstars said that they released their first new music in four decades, together with a concert performance that will see the “Dancing Queen” quartet go completely digital. The upcoming album “Voyage”, which will be released on November 5, is a follow-up to the 1981 “The Visitors”, which has so far been the Swedish group’s swan song. And a virtual version of the band will open a series of concerts in London on May 27.
Kulturhuset in the city of Uppsala hosts concerts and other meetings in an eight-storey building with a mirrored facade and angled plates reminiscent of crystal. The venue’s website said it would be closed from Wednesday to Friday due to the deaths.
“We are all shocked by the tragic accident and our thoughts go to the deceased, their relatives and their families,” it said in a statement on the website.
Police said they have no reason to suspect an ugly plane in the 80-year-old’s descent from the 7th floor.
