The defending champion of the Frenchwoman finished in the final tournament of the Billie Jean King Cup in the basic group.
After the initial unexpected loss to the Canadian tennis players in Prague today, they needed to beat Russia 3-0 to advance, but they lost 1: 2. In the final, the Russians faced the Americans, who in the battle with Spain gained the certainty of advancing by winning both opening singles.
In the opening French-Russian duel, Clara Burelová managed to turn the duel with Ekaterina Alexandrovová and won the three-hundredth battle 3: 6, 6: 4, 6: 3, but in the second match Alizé Cornetová cannot follow up.
In the duel of team ones against Anastasia Pavlyuchenko, she won the first set 7: 5, but the other two won the world twelve 6: 4, 6: 2.
“I’m really tired now because I put everything into it, physically and emotionally,” Pavlyuchenko said after winning.
“At the end of the second set, I felt like I would lose my voice as I screamed. I felt very good before the match and I was a little slower in the first set, but in the end I found the energy and got on the wave,” she added.
The Americans secured the procedure for Sloane Stephens and Danielle Collins. In the group C table, in which all three teams, including Slovakia, had a chance before the final match, after their smooth two-hundredth wins, the USA cannot even lose the final doubles for the first place.
Stephens lost to Nuria Parrizas 6: 4, 6: 4, and Collins outclassed Sarah Sorribes 6: 1, 6: 0 in less than an hour.
