Lyon: Cours Lafayette closed until February 2022
The development works of the public spaces of Boulevard Vivier-Merle, launched in 2019, are continuing and will begin to invest the Cours Lafayette on Tuesday.
A new phase of work will indeed begin on the northern part of Boulevard Vivier-Merle, between rue de Bonnel and cours Lafayette, and the proximity of the Brotteaux Servient tunnel requires companies to work for 3 months from the southern roadway of the cours Lafayette, to preserve the structure of the tunnel.
Traffic closed until February 2022
Consequently, Cours Lafayette will be closed to traffic from November 2, 2021 and until February 2022, between rue Ney and boulevard Jules Favre. Only the circulation of buses, bicycles and footpaths is maintained.
Diversions are in place for vehicles coming from the west of Cours Lafayette. Heavy goods vehicles use rue Garibaldi then rue Bonnel, while light vehicles can pass through rue Ney, rue Louis Blanc, Fournet and rue Lalande, a speed limit device being implemented on this route.
The purpose of the development work on Boulevard Vivier-Merle:
– Set up new roads to distribute traffic between cars, public transport and bicycles.
– Implanter of new bus shelters.
– Redevelop sidewalks, which are wider and more accessible for pedestrians, with materials that generate less heat.
– Create 120 new bicycle hoops and 2 additional Velo’V stations.
– Create new benches and new public lighting.
– Planter between 100 and 120 trees.
