Sogndal player had cardiac arrest: – Sorry movies:
The Icelandic Sogndal player Emil Pálsson (28) had a cardiac arrest and collapsed on the pitch in the 12th minute of the first division match against Stjørdals-Blink on Monday night.
Pálsson was revived on the lawn, and was conscious when he was taken in an air ambulance to Haukeland hospital, where he is now being examined and receiving treatment.
The match is broadcast live by Discovery on its website, and the production receives both praise and praise for a way of handling the situation.
– Search
Praise because Discovery not long after Pálsson drew on the panoramic camera away from the situation and zoomed out. Rice because about ten minutes later the camera back and zoomed in on the situation while Pálsson received treatment.
– I think it’s a shame that Discovery does not have the routines in place when something like this happens, says Lasse A. Vangstein, host of the podcast Toppfotball, a podcast about Norwegian football.
Sogndal player collapsed on the field
He saw Discovery’s broadcast about the Obos round when the news of Pálsson’s collapse came, and therefore pressed in to follow the current match.
– I was very happy when they zoomed out and panoramas away, says Vangstein.
That is why he also went out on Twitter and paid tribute to Discovery.
“Exemplary!”, Wrote Vangstein, pushing himself out of the current Sognal match, and again began to follow the broadcast of the Obos round.
Lies down flat
What Vangstein did not get was that Discovery after a while panned back to the situation and zoomed in again. The pictures from the broadcast showed how ambulance personnel worked with Pálsson.
In retrospect, it has become clear to stand for life and death, and that first aid was life-saving.
The licensee Discovery lies flat above Dagbladet, and calls it all a miss.
– It’s just to regret that we went back on the situation. This is a single production, and here there has been a communication gap. The photographer thought we had left the broadcast, and therefore zoomed in to document the situation as a news photographer would have done. Of course, this should not have happened when we were still out with the match, and it is just to apologize to those involved and the audience, says Martin Hinsch, communications consultant at Discovery, in a statement to Dagbladet.
NRK was slaughtered
When Vangstein started following the drama in Sogndal, the thoughts went to the European Football Championship this summer when Denmark’s star player Christian Eriksen signed on in Parken in Copenhagen.
Eriksen also had a cardiac arrest and was revived on the field.
Then NRK got a flurry of criticism for having shown pictures of an unconscious Eriksen for several minutes.
Vangstein believes Discovery’s answers show that they have learned after the European Football Championship.
– Human failure can happen, in what was certainly a stressful situation. It seems like they were not really going to show these pictures, but that it was a miss. In that case, the spinal reflex has been right. We can hope we do not experience this again, but if it should happen, we can hope the TV companies hit the mark better, says Vangstein.
