In vaccination against covid, Central Bohemia is slightly ahead of Prague
An important role was played by the government’s announced change of rules, where from the beginning of November only tests indicated for health reasons are covered by health insurance; not the ones that people were used to getting for travel or in cases where the certificate was to serve as a “ticket” to visit a restaurant or, for example, a hairdressing office. This was confirmed to the daily on Monday by the head of the internal medicine of the Mladá Boleslav hospital, Martin Polák, who is the regional vaccination coordinator in Central Bohemia. “This has helped to change the attitude of some undecided people,” he said. “As for the opponents of vaccination, we probably won’t be a big success there,” he said.
Change in mid-October
The 42nd calendar week, starting on Monday, October 18, brought a significant turnaround in the interest in vaccination. At that time, data on the number of vaccines administered rose in connection with the increase in interest in the third, so-called booster doses, but the numbers of the first doses administered – ie newly started vaccinations – also began to increase. The upward trend has been maintained in the last week of October, and I believe that many families and individuals have planned their program with regard to Thursday’s national holiday and the next two days of autumn holidays. In the case of the inhabitants of Prague, the number of administered vaccines remained roughly comparable to the previous week; in Central Bohemia it even increased by five thousand.
Currently, according to data as of October 31, almost eight hundred thousand Praguers have decided to be vaccinated. There are exactly 787,742 people living in the metropolis who have been given at least one dose of one of the approved vaccines. 739,866 people in Prague had one injection of Janssen with a single-dose schedule). There were more of them in the slightly more populous Central Bohemia: 782,036.
The seniors were most interested
The most vaccinated age categories are seniors aged 75-79. In Prague, practically everyone has completed vaccinations – and also in the Central Bohemian area the vast majority: 97 percent. About 80 percent of the population, both in and around the metropolis, is vaccinated by other senior categories: 80+ and the interval 70–74 years. On the contrary, the lowest share of those who opted for the vaccine is so far in the 25–29 age group: 46 percent in Prague and 43 percent in Central Bohemia.
As for schoolchildren, who can recently be heard spreading high-intensity covid-19 in their groups, for whom vaccination is now possible from the age of 12. According to Sunday surveys, 23,222 minors had started vaccinating minors, more precisely in the age group of 12–15 years – of which 20,417 children had already been completed. 28,514 older people and pupils residing in the Central Bohemian Region started vaccinations – and 25,560 of them have already “done” of them. In Central Bohemia, their numbers reached 17,348 and 16,386.
In the age group 12–15 years, vaccination fully depends on the decision of the parents, reminded the coordinator Polák. “My experience from a Central Bohemian school is that children would be interested in the vaccine because they are tired of taking tests all the time – but when parents refuse, nothing can be done,” he told Deník – but with the warning that it is more of a random finding. and certainly not about the results of any larger survey. He did not specify where this experience came from – only that it is not from Mladá Boleslav, where the Pole works, or from the Mladá Boleslav region. With schoolchildren elsewhere in Central Bohemia.
