“Greece 2021”: The whole revolution through an augmented reality application – How to “download” it | HELLAS
On June 12 and 13, 2021, the Greek Revolution “came to life” throughout Greece as part of the Commission’s Desire for Freedom action “Greece 2021”: on the facades of emblematic buildings of 18 cities, a visual narrative from the works of art of 1821 was displayed.
For projection the projection mapping technique. The originality of this work is found both in its content and in its enormous extent, which was attempted for the first time at an international level.
Today, the eponymous app of the artistic narrative Desire for Freedom, utilizing augmented reality technology, offers the possibility of digital reproduction of the work to the residents and citizens of 18 cities through their mobile phone or tablet. Each user can install the application for free and then, pointing the camera of their device at the building in which the screening took place, watch the project on the screen, as if the screening were going on at that moment.
The cities that participated in the action are Athens (Greek Parliament Building), Alexandroupolis (Zarifios Pedagogical Academy), Heraklion (Crete Region Building), Thessaloniki (Royal Theater), Ioannina (Courthouse), Kalamata ( Art Workshop – Art Center), Corfu (Old Town Hall), Lamia (Municipal Theater), Larissa (Club of Guard Officers), Messolonghi (Municipal Gallery), Naoussa (City Hall), Nafplio (Town Hall), . (Municipal Theater), Rhodes (City Hall), Syros (Apollo Theater), Tripoli (Courthouse), Chania (Mikis Theodorakis Theater) and Chios (Castle Wall, Porta Maggiore).
In its content, available in Greek and English, in addition to promoting the project, users will find the website of the Municipality where they are located, as well as information on cultural activities of the city and “Greece 2021”. In addition, each user has the opportunity to participate in the Commission’s Monetary Program and thus contribute to the strengthening of fire-affected areas and disaster recovery actions.
The artistic narrative “Wish for Freedom”, its methodology and technical adaptation of over 18 buildings, as well as the application of augmented reality created by the Laboratory of Changing Intelligent Environments (TUC TIE Lab) of the School of Architecture of the Technical University of Crete.
