During the orientation phase, there were some corona infections at universities in Lower Saxony. However, these are individual cases and not large numbers of infections.
In Göttingen, the Faculty of Business and Economics canceled its face-to-face events during the orientation week due to the infection. During this time there are special teaching and leisure events to make it easier for freshmen to start their studies and to make contacts. At the University of Göttingen, the number of people infected with corona was twelve on Monday. “The infections can be associated with the ‘O-Weeks’, but not with a specific event,” said the city. In any case, it is generally difficult to locate infections precisely. The contacts would be followed up to contain the contagion, said a spokesman.
Seven infections in Lüneburg, two in Hanover
At the Leuphana University of Lüneburg, seven infections can be linked to the “O-Weeks” there. The lecture period started there on October 12th. The cases were caused by three working groups, said a press spokesman. There are also a few more cases after a freshman party. How many cases are involved is not yet known. In Hanover, too, there were two infections in the “O phase” at the university, said a spokeswoman for Leibniz University. The two infectious diseases not related to celebrations.
