After knowing their anger at the insecurity in their Guillotière neighborhood on Thursday, October 21, the association of traders from Cours Gambetta had an appointment with the city of Lyon on Wednesday.
Less than a week after this “cry of despair”, the delegation of four traders was received by Mohamed Chihi, Deputy of the City of Lyon for Security.
With the feeling of being abandoned by the town hall, angry because of a situation of insecurity which “is becoming untenable for the traders” at La Guillotière and on the Cour Gambetta, the latter had asked to be received by Grégory Doucet within 15 days before take back the cobblestones, but this time in front of the Town Hall.
“We do not come out convinced”
On Wednesday, there were a dozen traders at the Town Hall. ” Everyone was able to explain their situation, in particular some of those most affected ”, testifies Bruno Dupuis, vice-president of the association of merchants of the Gambetta course.
On the town hall side, these are Mohamed Chihi and the director of the municipal police from Lyon who welcomed the delegation of traders.
“They drew up the observation that they are not than 300 police officers to cover Lyon, that the Guillotière sector is being followed, but that it is not the only one… We cry out from the heart, but which fall into the water ”, details the merchant at Lyon news. “In the face, we remain in the observation, in the actions on the long term, the bullet referral to the Minister of the Interior for lack of staff. We are immediately frustrated. “
Bruno Dupuis affirms, on behalf of the traders, to be aware “that there is a fundamental work to be done”. “But we do not come out convinced that the town hall is doing everything to challenge the state,” he adds.
“We would have liked some concrete actions”
The traders would have “liked to hear some concrete actions on very specific cases: video protection, presence of police accumulation”. “We are waiting for concrete answers on their proactivity with regard to video protection. We sometimes have the impression that they are discovering the extent of what is happening on Place Gabriel-Péri. On the spring of there with nothing to say to our traders. Impossible to reassure them, ”said Bruno Dupuis.
Before criticizing: “They say that they are on our side, that this situation is not acceptable, that the Guillotière cannot be a lawless area… This is a statement that we are happy to hear, but these are not acts. We know that tomorrow the wild market and delinquency will not stop like that. We would have liked concrete elements. We did not have any examples to show us that there was real in-depth work in progress, we only had small elements, but nothing that does not solve the problem, nothing that does not prove that it does. is recurring action. It remains generalist and elusive.”
About the slogan “Too many consultations, too many promises, too many lies. We want action! “Posted on the windows in the previous weeks, the traders noted” a powerlessness to stop these phenomena on a daily basis From the City.
“We’re not going to stop there”
The traders of Cours Gambetta warn that they will “certainly not stop there”. These latter invited the mayor of Lyon Grégory Doucet to come in “this area abandoned by the public authorities”. They thus hope “that he will come requesting national reinforcements more urgently, directly on the ground. “
In the coming days, the association also hopes “more pro-action from the police, or feel a commitment” to their side. “If not, we will continue to put the pressure“, Warns Bruno Dupuis, before detailing:” it will be done through demonstrations, in the street or in front of the Town Hall, or even other means to succeed in will reflect. “
In short, ” we arrive in the blur, and we come out in the blur“, Concluded the vice-president of the association of traders. Those who expected short-term answers did not take off.
