Soft mobility is developing in Luxembourg. In addition to numerous projects on stations and railway lines in the country, this time, a colossal project concerns the tram.
Since Monday, October 25, 2021, work has started on the side of the capital to allow travelers to reach Findel airport by tram from the Kirchberg plateau, and vice versa.
According to Luxtram, this extension will be put into service for year 2024 because before the reception of users, worksites have to be undertaken.
A new bridge over the A1 motorway
To allow extension of the tram line, Luxtram therefore informs that the preparation and tree removal are currently taking place along the A1 motorway, over an area of 3.2 hectares, and will last until early 2022.
No reason to panic for the preservation of the environment according to Luxtram which specifies that, from February 2022, oaks and beeches will be planted on selected land in the municipalities of Junglinster, Lorentzweiler and Niederanven on a total area of 8.6 hectares.
In addition to these early works, a new A1 motorway franchise bridge sera constructed. Work will begin in January 2022 on the “Neien Tramsschapp” site.
