Prague – Adam Steinbauer received the Divadelní noviny Awards for last year’s pandemic for directing a streamed version of the production Orten! and Lenka Dřímalová and members of the Ballet Ensemble of the Moravian-Silesian National Theater for the preparation and implementation of the Ballet Outdoors and Dancing Bridges projects. The jury also praised Adriana Světlíková and Petra Pola for organizing the 19th online and offline festival of the Small Inventory festival and the team of creators around the La Putyka Circus for the #kulturunezastavis initiative, which resulted in dozens of cultural events in public space.
Personalities regardless of profession was announced by Rostislav Novak Jr. The principal of the Cirk La Putyka ensemble also undertook the announcement and award ceremony, which he handed out during an almost hour-long run on a treadmill in the Prague cultural space Jatka78.
Online premiere of the streamed version of the award-winning production Orten! took place at Dramox on January 14 this year. Based on the published diaries of the prematurely deceased poet Jiří Orten, a production was created in a co-production of the FX Šalda Theater in Liberec and the Brno Theater 3 + KK, which was to premiere last October 30. Due to the epidemic situation, the theatergoers postponed it.
Barbora Liška, Jakub Liška and Petr Kubala also received awards for their publications in the field of theater for CEDIT magazine – contexts and overlaps of the work of the Center for Experimental Theater.
Dancer and choreographer Miřenka Čechová won the Divadelní noviny editorial award for her creative work during the pandemic for her concept and direction of the multimedia project metaBaletky. The performance of metaBallet is based on her autobiographical book, which caused a stir in the ballet community. In it, the author describes the environment of a dance conservatory in the 1990s and her sometimes harsh experiences from it.
The jury was decided by a jury appointed by the editorial staff of Divadelní noviny.
Divadelní noviny awards are given on the basis of voting by critics and publicists. With the Theater Critics Awards (formerly the Alfred Radok Awards), it is one of the most prestigious domestic theater awards. The Divadelní noviny awards were awarded for the 21st time this year.
