It is the largest poultry fair in France: 6,000 animals, 500 breeders and more than 3,000 visitors gathered for three days at the Limoges exhibition center. This year again the trend for chickens is not weakening, on the contrary, the health crisis has reinforced this enthusiasm.
They came from all over France and sometimes even beyond to admire poultry! But be careful not just anyone … Those of Limoges poultry fair are prestigious.
There is in particular the dwarf white-crested Dutch hen. Star of the 2021 edition, it has just won the President of the Republic’s prize.
It’s very pretty but it requires a lot of maintenance, it had to be groomed to come to the exhibition. She got this prize because she meets all the criteria of the breed, especially in terms of aesthetics.
The most important poultry fair in France
In total, seven countries are represented in this show which welcomes 6,000 animals and 3,000 visitors, the largest in France. This year again, the craze for chickens is very present, it has even exploded. At issue: the health crisis which has undoubtedly accentuated this need for nature and healthier food.
With the confinement, people wanted to put a chicken coop in their backyard, there was an increase in requests. There is also a notion of animal beauty which should be added. Today people prefer to have a cute little hen rather than the classic red hens.
