Monaco and ASVEL fall into line
After a dream start to the season, our French clubs are starting to run out of steam in Euroleague. Villeurbanne recorded a second consecutive setback. Monaco for its part, bowed for the third time in a row. To resume.

Our frenchies:
What regrets for ASVEL! After a first act of good quality, punctuated by a big lead (40-26 at the break), TJ Parker’s men gradually let go, allowing the Italians to gradually return to the match .. take control, from the start of the fourth quarter. To finally give in. As was the case during the season, ASVEL was first able to build on its long-distance success (6/13 at half-time), and in particular that of one of its strong men, Chris Jones ( 11pts, 3/3 on the shoot in the first act). Strong defensively, the Rhone then released ballast, leaving Nicolo Melli (14pts, 6rbds) and Shavon Shieds (15pts, 5rbds, 5asts) catch fire. In 6min, the Milanese had regained the advantage, following a 14-2. It took a great Elie Okobo (25pts at 11/16 to shoot, 3asts), once again, to pass a 7-0 and allow visitors to come back in front 5 minutes from the end (56-61). But it is ultimately Devon Hall, at the end of the match, which allows Milan to seek a 5th success in 5 games, at the end of a breathtaking end to the match. Terrible for ASVEL, who had the means to clinch a 4th victory since the start of the season. A second consecutive setback and Villeurbanne falls into line.
If ASVEL was defeated for the second time in a row, it is a third straight setback for Monaco. The Roca Team, after a balanced first half, went completely dark after the break, being up to 18 pts behind (60-42) during the third quarter. The main players tried to raise their heads, spurred on by the duo Boutsiele (11pts, 10rbds) – Andjusic (15pts, 3rbds). Unfortunately, Mitrovic’s players lacked skill to hope for anything: 3/26 long distance, only 58% on the throwing line, too little to aspire to a positive result in the premier European competition. Finally, the Monegasques were like their headliner, Mike James, who tried a lot, but above all harvested a lot (18pts certainly, but at 6/20, including 1/9 at 3pts). Opposite, Simone Fontecchio took advantage of the weakness of the Monegasque racquet to carry out a real job: 20pts, 7rbds, 4asts for a 3rd consecutive success. Quite the opposite of the Roca Team, which comes out of the top 10 for the first time this season.
To remember :
At last ! After 4 consecutive losses, Anadolu Efes has finally launched its season, at the cost of a narrow success against a weak Unics Kazan. Still deprived of Micic, the Stambouliotes relied on their duo of Frenchies, Rodrigues Beaubois (14pts, 3rbds, 3asts) – Adrien Moerman (10pts, 9rbds). Far from it all is not perfect, but Ergin Ataman’s men are moving in the direction of travel. This is also the case for Bayern, which also obtained its first success against a Zalgiris, him, still weaned from victory. The quartet of strong heads Hillard-Thomas-Walden-Lucic (57pts) carried the Germans.
In one of the shocks of the day, Real continued their good impression, overcoming Fener, still in great difficulty. Two Frenchmen as the best scorers (Chatter 16pts, Heurtel 10pts), a huge Poirier rebounding (17 takes) in the absence of Tavares, and here are the people of Madrid who have a 5th success in all competitions.
In statistics:
8: Behind the indestructible Americans, it is the French who made the law during this 5th day. Indeed, they are 8 to have scored 10pts or more. More than any other nation. cock-a-doodle Doo
27: It is not as much as Kazan, but all the same… defeated 84-58, Zenith St Petersburg took a real slap in Barcelona, which celebrated for the occasion, the 10 years of its last coronation in Euroleague. This in no way affects the good start to the season for President Tserkovny’s men, but the return to Russia is likely to be very long.
17: Like the number of rebounds swallowed by Vincent Poirier. A real project for the silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics. Personal record .. and club record beaten! The former Levallois proves that his missed passage in the NBA is not due to a lack of talent, but to the fact that his profile is undoubtedly more “FIBA compatible”.
3: Small day in terms of points that this 5th round of Euroleague. Indeed, only 3 teams exceeded the 80 pts mark, including both in the CSKA-Olympiakos match. The focus has therefore been given to defenses. The coaches must have appreciated, the spectators slightly less.
The MVP:
Will Clyburn. Because life without Toko Shengelia is still just as complicated for CSKA. Dropped early in the game (4-18 for Olympiakos), the Russians relied on their flagship American. 29pts at 9/16, 8/8 throws, 3rbds, 4asts, 32 evaluations, at least that was needed to respond to a Tyler Dorsey (32pts at 11/14 including 7/10 long distance!) On fire. With this 4th consecutive success, the Muscovites are back at the top of the ranking, just behind the untouchables Milan and Barcelona.
The results :
Efes 71-68 Kazan
Kaunas 73-75 Bayern
Maccabi 77-73 Panathinaikos
Milan 73-72 ASVEL
Real Madrid 70-69 Fenerbahçe
CSKA Moscow 88-82 Olympiacos
Red Star 63-78 Alba Berlin
Basconie 78-66 Monaco
