As a falcon, Jan Piskáček supported families including members arrested by the Gestapo. After landing the Anthropoid airdrop, she also helped the Piskáček family and Josef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš. Piskáček, for example, got them a doctor, Antonie Piskáčková and her mother Anna Hrušková get food rations for them. His son Miroslav again passed on secret messages to his classmates, who also came from Sokol families involved in the resistance.
“Everything culminated on May 27, when there was an attack on the deputy imperial protector, and Jan Kubiš survived the night of May 27-28 at Piskáčky. Piskáček also got a doctor who treated Kubiš’s injured eye. And the son of the Piskáčeks again moved the wheel on which Kubiš had left since the attack, “Karel Polata reminded of Initiative A. The whole family was soon arrested and executed by the Nazis on October 24, 1942 in Mauthasen.
“Naming the street after the Piskáček family was a clear choice, because it is located in close proximity to Na Břehu Street, where the Piskáčeks lived,” said Adam Vážanský, Deputy Mayor of Prague 9. In 2016, the city unveiled a memorial plaque on the house where the Piskáčeks lived during the Protectorate in memory of the Piskáčeks.
Libuše Eichlerová, the niece of the Piskáčeks, also spoke during the ceremonial naming, which took place last week. She was six years old when her relatives were executed. “They were very nice people, happy, just fun. And to this day, our family says on many occasions: What would they say to Piskáček, ”Libuše Eichlerová recalled.
Already in 2018, Prague 9 named two streets after the families of Czech resistance fighters, namely Moravcových and Strnadový. The city plans to name other new streets after other resistance fighters, such as the Kudls.
