Wind in Prague: Public transport is delayed, the Lítačka payment gateway has fallen

Sugar Mizzy October 21, 2021

Secure windows, doors and remove or fasten loose flower pots or parasols. Do not stay in the vicinity of older buildings, where there is a risk of tearing down roofing and near larger trees. Warnings of strong winds were not futile words.

“So far, we have dealt with about ten cases of accidents that occurred due to strong winds (falls of objects on people, falls). We would like to ask those who do not have to stay at home and prefer not to go out, “said Jana Poštová, a spokeswoman for the Prague ambulance.

Prague firefighters went to more than two hundred cases. “We have a strengthened operations center, at one point we always record dozens of reported events. Volunteer units help us, we try to intervene as a matter of priority in life-threatening events, “said firefighters on Twitter.

In the afternoon, the transport company had to divert tram lines 22 and 42 in the section Prague Castle – Royal Summer Palace via Hradčanská. Damaged trolleys interrupted tram traffic in both directions in the Albertov – Otakarova section, diversions of lines 7, 14, 18 and 24 were introduced. Delays then manifested themselves on dozens of lines for the entire city. Up-to-date information on emergencies in Prague’s public transport is published by the transport company on its Twitter.

“Due to the failure of the bank’s payment gateway, it is currently not possible to purchase tickets and coupons in the PID Lítačka application and e-shop. The operator is working on a remedy, thank you for your understanding. Activation of pre-purchased tickets is possible, “said Prague Integrated Transport (PID) on Twitter.

The zoo in Troja has closed the whole area for preventive reasons, visitors cannot even go to the pavilions. “Important warning! Due to the growing wind, we decided to close the Prague Zoo for the rest of the day (Thursday, October 21). We are very sorry and thank you for your understanding, “said the Prague Zoo on its Facebook. The Botanical Garden in Troja is partially closed to its exposition, you cannot go to the LES exposition.

Mayor Zdeněk Hřib also informed about the closure of the Zoo and Botanical Garden in Troja on his Twitter. He also recommended that people avoid parks and forests.

Due to a strong gust of wind, we are temporarily closing @zoo_praha and the Botanical Garden. We also recommend avoiding parks and forests where there is a risk of tree branches falling. Caution is also needed in the streets. Unanchored billboards, mobile traffic signs or scaffolding can be dangerous.

The city management also issued a warning. “We recorded falls in the branches in Stromovka and Letenské sady. We recommend that you do not go to Stromovka and Letenské sady during a strong wind, and rather not to playgrounds, “said the mayor of Prague 7, Jan Čižinský (Prague himself).
