In Prague, holidays will be extended in some primary schools due to covid
However, the decision to grant principal leave on Monday and Tuesday next week differs from school to school. It depends on the number of children infected with covid-19 and the number of quarantined classes.
At Wednesday’s press conference, the city administration, together with hygiene, called on schools to consider the possibility of granting leave, which, according to hygiene, would help against the spread of the disease. According to the Education Act, the announcement of director’s leave is fulfilled in the competence of school principals.
“Only three primary schools will have a long-term planned director’s leave before the autumn holidays. The other seven primary schools will not take this step. Prague 2 does not intend to interfere in these competencies in any way, “said Mayor Jan Černochová (ODS). According to her, there is a problem in the timing when many parents would not be able to respond to the regulation. “We would unequivocally welcome a comprehensive and clear solution from the state, not only the recommendations and challenges of the regional hygienic station and the municipality,” added Černochová.
We will invite school principals in the territory of Prague to evaluate the current morbidity of pupils at their schools. Based on the data, they should then decide voluntarily whether to announce two days of the director’s day at the beginning of next week, Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

The proposal to interrupt teaching was sent by the City Hall of Prague 3 to its school. Nine responses were received by the Office out of a total of dozens of schools. “Three schools will take time off and six will not. We have only two classrooms closed in the elementary school in Jeseniova Street, “said spokeswoman Zuzana Křížková.
The recommendation of the municipality, ie to invite the director to declare a leave, is intended to be fulfilled by Prague 7. “This recommendation came to us today from the hygienic station. We passed it on to the schools established by us, so that, according to him, we could arrange ourselves after evaluating the situation at their school. The final decision is up to school principals, “said Prague 7 spokesman Martin Vokuš.
Director’s leave is also being prepared in the eighth part of the city. “On the recommendation of announcing the director’s leave, eight out of a total of 15 primary schools announced Monday and Tuesday. So in summary: eight primary schools have director’s leave and the remaining seven are normal classes on Mondays and Tuesdays, “said Prague 8 spokesman Martin Šalek.
The City of Prague 13 called on its schools to follow the recommendations according to the municipality and hygiene. Pupils of some schools in Prague 14 will also have director’s leave. It concerns the Bratří Venclíků primary school, the Šimanovská primary school and the Hloubětínská primary school. “The principals of the remaining schools, ie Vybíralova Primary School, General Janoušek Primary School and Chvaletická Primary School, will not announce the director’s leave,” said spokeswoman Veronika Berná.
Prague 6 schools are planning to test their schoolchildren. “We cannot imagine the state closing schools again. The government has not yet told us a specific solution plan, but it is necessary to respond very quickly and effectively to the deteriorating epidemic situation. That is why we are coming up with our own initiative again. Through testing, we want to ensure that the disease does not spread further in schools. We want to test the children in schools on November 1, when they will return from the autumn holidays, “said Councilor Marie Kubíková (ODS).
