Domestic violence remains one of the worst problems facing the Republic of Moldova
Domestic violence, and especially violence against women, remains one of the worst problems facing the Republic of Moldova. What’s worse is that during the pandemic, the phenomenon spread. Combating violence against women is one of the main objectives announced by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova and was discussed at an International Conference organized for the first time in Chisinau. The event was also attended by President Maia Sandu.

This is also reflected in the statistical data we have now. 90-80 at “One hundred women and men think that a woman’s mission is mainly to take care of her family and home. And 40 percent of men still think there are times when a woman deserves to be beaten.”
In his speech, President Maia Sandu said that one of the current priorities of the government is to combat violence against women and promote gender equality.

FLY I am glad that, finally, the Republic of Moldova has managed to ratify the Istanbul Convention – it is an excellent step forward and we will be able to make it visible when this document is implemented ”.
Last week, Parliament ratified the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence. The international development partners present at the event appreciated the important step taken by the Chisinau Parliament to better protect women and combat domestic violence.
KATRINA FOTOVAT, official, Secretariat for Global Women’s Affairs, USA: “We have an action plan to be launched in 2022 that will establish a Government approach to violence against women nationally and globally and after consultation with society organizations civil, this plan will be approved. We will also address and react globally to stop and eliminate violence against women. “
WILLIAM MASSOLINI, Head, Council of Europe Office in Chisinau: “The Council of Europe together with its national and international partners must be committed to providing full support so that girls and women in the Republic of Moldova can live without fear and without violence.”
The Istanbul Convention includes 81 articles with provisions signed by their document committed to preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, protecting victims, prosecuting criminals and adopting integrated policies.
