Audomarois – Assises du Pas-de-Calais: a fifty-year-old tried for rape of a woman suffering from intellectual disability
At the Court of Assizes of Pas-de-Calais, in Saint-Omer, a trial for rape of a vulnerable person has been taking place since Friday afternoon. The facts take place in May 2018 in Longuenesse. A fifty-something is accused of raping a woman with intellectual disability.
This Friday, the relatives of the accused took the stand to review the personality of the latter and the facts “are not ashamed”.
A helpful, courageous man, not mean. A little brother who had a normal childhood in a loving family in Blendecques. An adult now 58 years old for whom “We did what we could”. These are the items for his family members to talk to him about at the bar. A family which suffers today from the accusations which weigh on him, and which does not include / understand it.
In May 2018, allegedly accused the victim in the street. A sexagenarian, suffering from intellectual disability, who went to her husband’s grave in the cemetery of Longuenesse. They know each other by sight. So he starts the conversation before following her when she turns around to go home. She would then have refused to let him take her home. Despite everything, he would have returned to her home and would have ended up raping her.
In court, the accused admits the facts, as he did during the investigation. On the other hand, he does not explain them. He sometimes has trouble understanding the president’s questions but apologizes a lot to the victim and his relatives.
However, its relation to the women questioned. For a former company, the man had an attraction for older women and would have behaved questionably with a neighbor with a disability. And he’s already been convicted of a sexual assault. It was in 2014, on a 79-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s disease.
