Gauvain Ser in Toulouse: “Songs associated with tolerance, sharing …”
First and foremost happy to be back with the public to present the songs from his new album “Your Place in this World”, Gauvain Sers returned to Toulouse, whom he knew well. He will be on stage at the Casino Barrière this Friday …
To present your new album “Your Place in this World” you invest a room that you do not know in Toulouse …
Indeed, we went to the Salle Nougaro a few years ago and then the Bikini in 2018 and there we wanted to make a fully seated and large format room so we decided to do the Casino. It’s the kind of venue that I love because the setting is magnificent, and it allows both proximity to the audience but also to send with the group. I can’t wait to get there and present the new songs to the audience. After three albums we start to have enough songs to have fun even if it is difficult to choose only twenty. But it’s great because we can vary the pleasures despite everything, we can change the concert over the course of the tour which will also include two Zeniths who are important markers in a career so I can’t wait!
Like the Olympia in 2018 which was not bad right? !
Yes it was a really crazy moment! In the morning when you arrive at the room, when you see the letters, when you think of your parents, of the family who come, of the friends, of all the people with whom you work, there is a form … no fulfillment but a little bit anyway of “We did it and we stole it from nobody somewhere” and it’s a great story.
Do you have role models in your profession?
Souchon, Cabrel, Renaud of course, Pierre Perret whom I adore… artists who have stayed a long time and who are still there thanks to their songs, their work, which have marked the collective unconscious. When we listen to these standards today the pleasure is still there. For me, that’s the real success of a career, when you wrote “sentimental crowd”, “winning Mistral” or “I love her to death”.
You quote Pierre Perret and on your last album the song “Sentiment bizarre” refers to his “Lily”…
It is a kind of echo to “Lily” version 2021, which asks the question of knowing what has changed since Pierre sang it and what remains to be done. Things have changed but there are still many people discriminated against on a daily basis and some are dying so it is not over. I think it’s important to write songs to convey the message of tolerance, on equal opportunities, on parity, so many subjects that are at the center of a lot of discussions among young people in particular. And then there is also the song “Your place in this world” which questions the time which called into question many certainties it seems to me, do we live in the right place, do we do the right job, do we live with the right person …
