these last OL-Monaco which marked the spirits
Olympique Lyonnais (10th) and AS Monaco (6th) will face each other this Saturday at 9pm as part of the 10th day of Ligue 1. A shock often synonymous with river scores over the past decade.
March 16, 2014 – OL-Monaco 2-3: ASM meets Lyon offside
Engaged in the race for the podium, Rémi Garde’s men must not bow to the ASM of Claudio Ranieri, solid second in the championship. The meeting started badly for the Lyonnais, led 2-0 after barely 30 minutes of play. Jimmy Briand allows his team to sound the revolt but, on the return from the locker room, Dimitar Berbatov sinks OL. Alexandre Lacazette scores late in the game to reduce the score but the damage is done and Monaco wins.
We could stay there if the three goals of the Monaco club had not been scored with players in an offside position. The Lyonnais, with Rémi Garde and Jean-Michel Aulas in the lead, are furious. Exceptionally, the refereeing body, led by Freddy Fautrel, will explain itself to the media at the end of the match to admit its errors. Olympique Lyonnais gave up their podium chances and finished the season in fifth place, 10 points behind third.
April 23, 2017 – OL-Monaco 1-2: ASM’s last victory in Lyon
Before facing each other, the two teams are still involved in the European Cup. Lyon are preparing to face Ajax in the semi-finals of the Europa League, while Juventus dress in front of Monaco in the last four of the Champions League. If they want to regain their place as leader, Leonardo Jardim’s players are obliged to win against an OL with many absent (Alexandre Lacazette, Nabil Fekir and Rachid Ghezzal).
Led by Kylian Mbappé, the Monegasques largely dominate this match and logically open the scoring through Radamel Falcao (36th) from a corner. Launched by Bernardo Silva just before the break, Kylian Mbappé adjusts Anthony Lopes to score the 2-0 goal. Despite the reduction of the gap of Lucas Tousart, the Lyonnais bow and allow ASM to regain the lead in Ligue 1. Monaco has won all of its following matches and will be crowned champion at the end of the season.
October 13, 2017 – OL-Monaco 3-2: Fekir crucifies ASM
A few days away from facing Besiktas in the Champions League, Leonardo Jardim decided to run before moving to Lyon. Falcao and Fabinho are absent, Djibril Sidibé is meanwhile on the bench. Bruno Genesio’s men came into the match better and opened the scoring thanks to Mariano Diaz. Monaco reacted thanks to Rony Lopes, well launched, who won his face to face against Anthony Lopes.
Despite everything, Lyon continues its domination and returns to the front following a goal from Nabil Fekir. Frustrated, ASM recovered and, with a powerful strike, Adama Traore found the top corner to equalize at 2-2 before the break. The second half starts again on the same basis and the two teams both have the opportunity to take the lead. In the 94th minute, OL got a free kick 25 meters from Danijel Subasic’s goal. Nabil Fekir takes care of hitting him and deceives the Monegasque goalkeeper at the last second. Groupama Stadium explodes.
May 7, 2016 – OL-Monaco 6-1: final battle for a place in the Champions League
After a failed first part of the season forcing him to dismiss his coach Hubert Fournier during the winter break, OL are gradually climbing up the rankings and approaching third place held by Monaco. Two days from the end, the two teams meet for a final for third place. Lyon is fourth with 62 points but with a difference of but largely favorable. A victory in this shock is enough for the Lyonnais to pass in front of the Monegasques.
In one of the biggest crowds of its new stadium (56,696 people), Lyon leaves Monaco no chance. In seven minutes, Bruno Genesio’s players lead 2-0 thanks to Ghezzal and Lacazette. The ASM is very badly embarked and things will not get better since Lacina Traoré is sent off for a second yellow card. Jean-Michel Aulas’ club is taking place. 4-1 for Lyon at half-time, the Monegasques learned the weapons and finally bow 6-1. OL are in the Champions League and Genesio is extending his contract for three years.
October 25, 2020 – OL-Monaco 4-1: OL gift Monaco
In a Groupama Stadium behind closed doors, OL (8th) receives Monaco (9th). From the 11th minute, the Lyonnais opened the scoring through Memphis Depay. Rudi Garcia’s players unroll, and score three goals in ten minutes. Houssem Aouar transforms a penalty (41st) and Karl Toko Ekambi offers himself a brace (34th and 44th). Upon returning from the locker room, the Monegasques obtained a sanction following a fault by Sinaly Diomandé on Ruben Aguilar and Wissam Ben Yedder was responsible for saving the honor. Following this victory, the Lyonnais will remain undefeated for 11 days before losing to Metz (0-1).
