Slovakia is not very prepared for a new healthcare concept
VBHC is a modern approach from which, according to analysts, patients, providers, as well as health insurance companies can benefit in the medium and long term. “The prerequisite is quality measurement of quality and achieved results, electronic sharing of information and integrated provision of care across any links in the healthcare chain. This model would also be beneficial in Slovakia, but we would have to start moving away from current healthcare funding based , or on the basis of lump sums, “ said INEKO analyst Dušan Zachar for TASR.
He stressed that society would necessarily have to change in thinking and put the patient at the center and his continuous improvement of health at the lowest possible cost. “At the moment, however, in Slovakia we are too far from the normal state, production and quantity still remain in the foreground, and not the result and quality,” Zachar stated.
According to the head of the department of biomedical research and other studies at Martin Martina Antošová University Hospital, Slovakia is very little prepared for the VBHC concept. “We need a lot of commitment and motivation from professionals, but also from the government, and the realization that healthcare is not just about quantity, but about quality.” said Antošová. The essence of quality is biomedical research, but support for this sector is low, according to Antošová. With the introduction of the new concept of healthcare, it also deals with the development of digitalization of healthcare.
Health insurers agree that they can help develop the new concept. “My as an insurance company can think about having a small package and how to make the best use of it, how to optimize processes as much as possible. There is also a need to improve cooperation with doctors, because he is the ten who has the most information about the patient.” stated Marcel Mikolášik from the General Health Insurance Company (VšZP).
“Abroad, this concept is slowly starting to work, but investment in healthcare is disproportionately higher than in our country. We want a lot of music for little money. This concept pays significant money savings, but above all we need to invest. ” in medical facilities. It’s a long-distance project, you can see the results in six, seven years, “ Roman Mužik from the health insurance company Dôvera responded.
He added that it would also contribute to the development of healthcare if doctors were not paid on a flat-rate basis, but according to performance and results. “The problem is also that the financing of health care is unpredictable, it often happens that what one government approves, the other skill. The new concept is for years and this instability will not help.” stated the Man.
