Neue Zürcher Zeitung: Orbán would get the Budapest airport for his friends
According to the paper, the closer the April 2022 election, the stronger the emotional of foreign investors in the Hungarian prime minister’s hard hand.
The Prime Minister of Hungary may have been in power for only a few months, and in the remaining time he will transform the country’s economy for the benefit of his friends, which the foreign owners of Budapest Airport are now feeling, writes the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. According to the paper, the closer the April 2022 election is, the stronger the hard hand of foreign investors Viktor Orbán will feel. The opposition coalition believes it has a chance to win the election. Orbán knows the situation is dangerous and will do everything he can to create an informal base of power around him.
According to the author, Orbán is acting economically smart and opportunistically: some parts of the domestic economy, such as Budapest Airport, would be given to his friends, but the export sector dominated by foreigners will never act again. For example, the highly represented automotive industry in the country (Mercedes, BMW, Audi) fulfills all the wishes. This sector is very productive and allows Orbán to fund the ideological welfare state for the benefit of the middle class.
