The Prague City Hall will take over the reconstruction of Jiřího z Poděbrad Square from Prague 3
The project of reconstruction of Jiřího z Poděbrad Square in Vinohrady, which has architectural concerns with the MCA studio, will be taken over by the new Prague City Hall, after the documentation has been completed. Originally, Prague 3 still had to pay for its financial work, but its management agreed with the Prague management that the investments were provided by the city.
Náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad is mainly the area of Vinohrady, as it is connected to Vinohradská třída, and in addition there is an important monument by the architect of Slovenian origin Josip Plečnik, namely the Church of the Sacred Heart of the Lord. However, the surroundings of this monument do not correspond to the current needs of the city district and, moreover, do not correspond to the national cultural monument.
The reconstruction of the space has been prepared since 2000, when the town hall management approved the architectural design from the MCA studio. The locals protested against this proposal several times, they did not like removing the fountains. For many years, various vicissitudes followed until the plans were completely stopped. Only the year before last, the deputies need further possibilities of reconstruction and reworking of the project according to the needs of the inhabitants.
According to the approved document, the estimated costs of repairs are 270 million crowns, but an increase is expected. Work is scheduled to begin in August next year. The repair of the metro station was also started on the square, which will last until January 2023.
