In Toulouse, the Ponts-Jumeaux college inaugurates a musical class
A musical class has just seen this year at the Ponts Jumeaux college in Toulouse. This Wednesday, October 6, 30 fifth grade students were given their instruments. Violins, saxophones, flutes: each of them has chosen one and will take four additional hours of lessons each week to learn to master.
Rose, for example, gets a transverse flute, “because I liked the sound it made “ tells the teenager who has never played. She chose to join this class, “because it looked like fun with all the outings and projects in class.”
During these four additional hours of lessons, teachers from the Music’Halle music school will supervise the students. All will also have an hour of choir.
Make college more enjoyable
It is therefore the college that lends the instruments to the students, and the families have to have them revised once a year. “It is therefore a social mix project”, open to all without condition of means according to the principal Stéphane Le Halpère. Axelle, a mother of a student, abounds: “We don’t always have the means or the opportunity to pay for music lessons, so that’s great!”
“Music soothes the soul, also considers Stéphane Le Halpère. When a third of the school’s students participate in the project, this helps to pacify the school climate, this helps to give a cultural openness, to cement the pupils in a common project “
Fight against dropping out
“With this class, we wish the success of our students”, put forward Romain Lapeyre, the music teacher behind the project. “We are convinced that music allows you to concentrate more, to learn to listen, to be respectful towards others. The primary objective is to put students in a situation of success. “
90 students will eventually be engaged in this musical class, from fifth to third. The first class of 30 students is sponsored by former international rugby player Omar Hassan, now an opera singer.
