Florence, new open-air classrooms at the Pirandello institute – Cronaca
Florence, October 6, 2021 – A. outdoor school in the most comfortable and sustainable way thanks to new equipment entirely made of wood. Ribbon cutting this afternoon for the classrooms in the gardens of the Pirandello Comprehensive Institute, for the boys of the Pirandello first grade secondary school and of the Calvino, Ambrosoli and Locchi primary schools.
A donate tables, platforms, seats in wood the non-profit association Amici IC Pirandello which with the Municipality and the institute has already stipulated a collaboration agreement for the shared management of school green spaces as well as the creation of entertainment and aggregation activities. This is how the “Equipped Gardens” project takes shape, the subject of a Council resolution presented by the deputy mayor with delegation to participation and active citizenship Alessia Bettini and by the councilor for education Sara Funaro. At the inauguration this afternoon, Bettini, Funaro, the president of the district 4 Mirko Dormentoni, the president of the Amici IC Pirandello association Carlo Vernassa were present, with all the promoters of the initiative, teachers and children.

We can only thank the association for donating these beautiful and sustainable wooden equipment and we are really happy to be able to collaborate with them. “This gives our young students the opportunity to experience outdoor education in a beautiful and welcoming space – said the Councilor for Education Sara Funaro -, which provides for a great variety of pedagogical experiences in open spaces. We strongly believe in this type of training offer, in which we are investing heavily as an administration, starting with childcare services, through the many projects of this type included in the training and educational package of ‘The Keys of the city’ “. “We are happy that children love being outdoors – continued Funaro -. The relationship with nature and the surrounding environment is important for the growth of children. Investing in environmental education and making students aware of the importance of respecting the environment is essential to train aware citizens and responsible students. With this donation, Amici IC Pirandello demonstrates their attachment to the school and the children who attend it and makes us happy to be part of a community attentive to the needs and growth of the little ones ”.

A lot of work and a lot of commitment have brought us to this exciting moment. – underlined the president of the association Carlo Vernassa – The idea of equipped gardens dates back to 2016: with a lot of passion and will, step by step, we were able to realize what we imagined 5 years ago. A practical demonstration of how, united, we risk doing things. A heartfelt thanks to all those who collaborated and supported us and a good school year to our children who will use the outdoor classrooms ”. The “Equipped Gardens” project was born from the bottom up thanks to the commitment of parents and teachers from the Pirandello institute who have long since joined in thenon-profit association Amici IC Pirandello. For their part, many actions have been put in place so far, from games on the ground to murals made on the basis of children’s drawings and then the tables on the stairs, playful-didactic activities and a school-work alternation project with high school Alberti-Dante artistic which saw the students involved in graphic and video elaborations aimed at telling how they imagined the school of the future. The project has now gone on with the new outdoor classrooms, comfortable, sustainable and accessible, located in the green area of the institute.
