A camp of about fifty people evacuated by the police
Those who are in a legal situation will be offered an accommodation solution, the others will be subject to an eviction procedure. A Roma camp located on the way to
Gramont, east of Toulouse, was evacuated by the police this early Wednesday morning. “This evacuation was carried out at the request of the owners of the illegally occupied land” and “in application of several court decisions”, specifies the prefecture.

Forty-nine people were in the camp at the time of the intervention. “They were able to meet with state services, take the time to recover their personal effects and their rolling vehicles,” said the same press release. Three of the families accepted hotel accommodation while their administrative situation was being examined.
Indignation in the associative world
To explain the dismantling of this long-established camp along the railway line, the authorities evoke “a real danger for the occupants”, in particular because of the presence of unauthorized electrical connections. Connections which, in September, caused a failure of the rail network and disrupted train traffic “over a wide area”. The incident probably sped up operations.
This evacuation provoked the indignation of Médecins du Monde which followed the camp and estimated that “25 families, 60 adults and 20 children” were dislodged. “The immediate consequences are the loss of their shelter and insecurity in the face of climatic hazards”, explains the NGO, adding that “school paths and care paths are also interrupted”.
