Hungary’s first animal welfare code was born; In addition to the initiating University of Veterinary Medicine, the document was signed by 14 other organizations, including the National Police Headquarters, the Hungarian Veterinary Chamber and the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden on the occasion of World Animal Day.
Péter Sótonyi, Rector of the University of Veterinary Medicine, reminded that the support of the University of Veterinary Medicine, representatives of scientific life, various governmental bodies and members of the civil sphere, and independent animal protectors was born in the Animal Welfare Code.
The rector emphasized that such an animal-loving, valued community had been born, and its members had to make a voluntary commitment to animal protection based on professional foundations and collaborations.
The Code was not designed for companion animals, but for the protection of all animals. In order to comply fully with the code, full cooperation is needed, MTI added.
Péter Ovádi, Ministerial Commissioner for the Renewal and Implementation of the National Animal Welfare Program, emphasized that the government’s priority was to protect animals. Our goal is to be at the forefront of animal protection in Europe within five years, ”he said.
More than 262,000 people gave their views during the animal protection consultation on thirteen issues, launched in February. It’s a legitimacy we can all work with together, ”the ministerial commissioner said.
Péter Ovádi added that all state, professional and non-governmental organizations dealing with animal protection are encouraged to join the Animal Welfare Code, to act together in favor of an on-site association for animal welfare, as animal protection is a common issue.
The Animal Welfare Code is initiated by the Ministerial Commissioner for the Renewal and Implementation of the National Animal Welfare Program on behalf of the University of Veterinary Medicine, as well as the National Police Headquarters, the National Food Chain Safety Office, the Hungarian Veterinary Chamber, the National Chamber of Agriculture, the National Chamber of Agriculture It was signed by the Hunting Association, the Circus Art Center Nonprofit Ltd., the NOÉ Animal Home Foundation, the Animal Rescue Service Foundation, the Ant Community, Ebugatta.hu, Kutyabarat.hu and Hunland Trans Kft.
The code can be signed by all Hungarian organizations dealing with animals and communicating about animals, which feel and accept the booking of documents. The text of the document can be read at www.univet.hu website.
