THE’association Urgence POLT welcomes the progress of the file, but remains vigilant, while waiting to see this vast project of modernization rail links Paris-Toulouse.
On Saturday September 18, the Board of Directors of Emergency POLT line took place, at the Town Hall of Limoges in the presence of the elected representatives of the association received by Jean-Claude Sandrier, honorary deputy and of the mayor of Limoges Émile Roger Lombertie .
Jean-Noël Boisseleau, vice-president of Emergency POLT, clarified the essential role of the train as much at the social, environmental level as of territorial balance. He also recalled the letter co-signed on January 19, 2021, by all the presidents of Departments and mayors of the city-stations from Paris to Toulouse, an initiative initiated by Serge Rigal, President of the Department, Jean-Marc Vayssouze- Faure, mayor of Cahors and Jean-Noël Boisseleau: “This should serve to accelerate the modernization of the POLT line, an axis defined by the State as structuring and a priority”.
The rail recovery plan for the renovation of the rail network, of 2.3 billion euros must result in concrete time savings of at least 45 minutes for Paris and at least 15 minutes for Toulouse, allowing for example for Cahors, reach the regional metropolis in less than an hour.
“Gain in speed, quality and service”
Representing Serge Rigal, the vice-president in charge of mobility, Frédéric Gineste underlined: “We note the regeneration of the POLT line, in view of the investments made by the State and with the planned arrival of 16 new trainsets. Note also the effort made by SNCF on attractive prices for Intercity trains. However, we quickly understand the reestablishment of 2 main line trains from Paris to Toulouse without penalizing the grid of services to intermediate stations, such as Souillac and Gourdon. In addition, it is important to consider the line in its entirety and seeks time savings also towards the South, namely from Limoges to Toulouse. Finally, the Department considers that the quality of the service also depends on the maintenance of counter clerks in the small stations ”.
And the elected representative of Lot to resume: “The Department’s desire is to improve speed, quality and service, particularly to the south of Brive so that the Lot Department has equal access to rail service”.
Georgette Laporte, president of “Tous Ensemble Pour les Gares”, recalls that night trains must serve Gourdon and Souillac daily and not only on weekends and that the regeneration work on the POLT line, equipped with double track, can leave the passage on the track not under construction and that the almost permanent diversions by Tours, Bordeaux and Montauban heavily penalize the Lot, by depriving them of these desserts.
Nathalie Denis, 1st deputy of the town hall of Gourdon, intervenes for the accessibility of people with reduced mobility in the stations of Gourdon and Souillac, whose completion deadline is not yet foreseen by the master plan of the POLT Line; it would like to be the relaunch of freight, which must come back and can be used by Lot companies such as Imeritz Quartz in Thédirac.
Great progress that the members of the UPOLT association will want to see achieved, as soon as possible.
