Prague 1 has a new bike path in Zlatnické. The office first wrote: “by no means”
The office was initially initially opposed
When Adam Bílek, a resident of Prague 1, sent an initiative to the Office in October 2020 to establish a bicycle two-way street in Zlatnické, the Office wrote: “We really don’t understand that anyone can suggest such a variant. In order to allow bicycle traffic to ride in the opposite direction in this narrow Zlatnická street in Prague 1 with parked vehicles. Indeed, this method of counter-traffic for cyclists cannot be allowed here. In no case do we consider this adjustment and we will not implement it.“
In any case
Later, a letter from Vratislav Filler arrived at the district office with arguments as to why the cycle two-way can be determined:
“Look away from the tone, which does not correspond much to the statement of the district office, despite the fact that according to the map, according to the map, the intensity of the season is cycled in the opposite direction around 50 people per day. So obviously enough people who thought that this street could be two-way for bicycles, and even now they are behaving as if Zlatnická was a two-way bicycle. I would like to point out that the road in Zlatnická is about 6.4 meters wide at its narrowest point (with one-way parking), and in the place where two-way parking was set up (in a rather dangerous place before the crossing), there still remains about 3.8 meters between vehicles. . These are the spatial conditions which, according to TP 179, allow the cycling in both directions in the event that a zone of 30 km / h is established. After all, it makes much more sense in such streets than fifty, also due to the viewing conditions before the crossing at Truhlářská, which are in complete conflict with ČSN. In the case of removing the parking spaces to the left before the crossing at Truhlářská, the establishment of a bicycle two-way street will also be acceptable in accordance with ČSN 73 6110, which is also obsolete and unreasonably restrictive. I would therefore like to ask you for a specific justification why it is not possible to set up a goldsmith’s cycle in Zlatnická, if TP 179 obviously allow it. Alternatively, why it is not possible to adjust the traffic regime in the street so that the establishment of a bicycle two-way route is acceptable […]. “
