It will take (again) patience. Teleo, the future Toulouse urban cable car (Haute-Garonne) will not be operational before first semester 2022 an announcement this Wednesday, September 29, 2021 Jean-Michel Lattes.
Commissioned in 2022
However, last July, the president of Tisséo and his teams were optimistic. They were counting on a commissioning at the end of the year, during the month of December.
Politics do not decide on commissioning. Currently, we are testing the machine, in other words the motor, the safety devices, the clamps of the cabins … At the end of these tests, there will be a check carried out by the agents of the Technical Service of the ski lifts and guided transport. (STRMTG). If we have their green light, we will carry out a dry run phase with a commissioning, empty, of the cabins from 5.15 am to midnight (Tisséo standard hours). It will then be up to the Prefect to give his agreement for an opening to users. ”

Avoid the same mishaps as the Brest cable car
Started in 2019, the site of the longest cable car in France (3 km) is therefore still being built for several months. At the big dam, thousands of users who hope to gain precious minutes in their daily commute time thanks to Téléo. But the president of Tisséo assumes this (new) report:
My position as the elected representative in charge of the project is above all not to go too fast. Why ? Because we have the example of Brest (Finistère). There, the elected officials wanted to inaugurate very quickly. Result of the course: the cable car has known and still is experiencing technical incidents. We want an efficient and risk-free system. “
Difficulties in the supply of raw materials
Also present this Wednesday at the future Téléo station of Paul-Sabatier, the vice-president of Poma, builder of the Toulouse urban cable car, also justified this report by the group’s desire “to present a fully functioning device”.
In addition, there are currently difficulties in world markets regarding raw materials. We are encountering supply problems on certain electronic equipment which also causes some delays in the progress of the work. ”
An investment of 82 million euros
Will this extension of the site over time inflate the note? For the moment, impossible to say. The only certainty, initially estimated at 63 million euros, the overall cost of the Téléo project has now reached 82 million euros, it is necessary to add 2 million euros per year for maintenance. Maintenance that will be provided by Poma employees over a period of 20 years.
These additional costs can be explained by major changes in the project. The first is to have opted for 3S technology. An innovative system made up of 3 cables (2 carriers and 1 tractor) which combines performance and comfort for the user. The second, to have modified the departure plans for an amount of 10 million euros. Originally, the Paul-Sabatier station was to be on the other side, that is to say near the entrance to the Bellevue high school, but the flow of travelers that this would have generated in front of the establishment of a problem. “

If the president of Tisséo did not fail to point out that the notion of profitability in public transport did not exist, “our challenge is to be able to make frequentation profitable”.
The Toulouse metropolitan area’s public transport network is counting on an objective of 8,000 users every day. “If the demand is there, we can increase the capacity. The installation is in fact sized to accommodate up to 1,500 people, per hour and per direction, ”concludes Jean-Michel Lattes.
