During September, Prague will remove 13 illegal advertising media
Employees of the city company today dismantled the advertising space in Radlická Street, work will continue during Thursday. THMP spokesman Martin Drozd told ČTK. Advertising media were necessary for roads without a permit or lease agreement, and according to the Prague councilor for property Jan Chabr (TOP 09), the municipality will enforce sanctions on its own. There are an estimated hundreds of illegal billboards around Prague.
According to Tomáš Novotný, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of THMP, employees of the town company dismantled advertising media in Kunratice, Zličín and Letňany in September. Today and Thursday, illegal advertising media are being removed in Radlice. On Thursday, THMP will work on the dismantling of billboards in Řeporyje and Zličín. According to Chabr, no illegal advertising space has a reliable anchorage, which can put people at risk of injury or property damage.
According to the councilor, the removed outdoor signs travel to THMP’s warehouse. “Before returning them (to the owners of advertisements), we will of course demand compensation from the owner for unjust enrichment for unauthorized use of municipal land and, given that we approached this procedure in the public interest, the costs of removal and further placement in the warehouse directly “Chabr said.”
The Prague coalition has the reduction of so-called visual smog in its program. Dozens of billboards have been removed in the metropolis so far, which were placed on the roads without permission. Prague began their dismantling in 2020, when 22 of them were removed. The municipality usually obtains information on illegally placed billboards from the individual city districts in which these billboards are located. According to Drozd, illegal advertising media in the capital can be counted in the hundreds, and the exact number of clicks is not available.
