Rouen. Pollution, dangers … At Graindor school, parents overwhelmed by the bus station

A few minutes on the spot are enough to realize the tingling that takes place around Graindor / Pouchet school complex, located in Rouen city center (Seine-Maritime). Those nursery and elementary schools along the rue du Général-Giraud, the Teor axis, and the rue des Charrettes, all perpendicular to the bus station. Insufficient security, noise pollution, but above all air… The parents of Graindor students, the most concerned by nuisances, express their fed up with the environment in which their children live.
“We must move this station”
Madame Moura, who has a daughter in a nursery school section, finds it quite “absurd” that “the buses are always in operation, without ever cutting their engine”. It refers to the vehicles at the bus station, whose stops are next to kindergarten, and which line up behind the other entry and exit times.
“My daughter has asthma, and she coughs sometimes. I have to educate her here, but if I had another option, I would take it. This young mother held attention to the black film covering the electrical box a few steps from an entrance to the school. “It’s not clean… This bus station would have to go somewhere else. “
Parents who have to “rush” onto the sidewalk
Manar, another mother of a little boy, deplores the congestion of the street, by “the buses, but also the cars which sometimes circulate very quickly”, at the front as at the back of the establishment. She qualifies the noise of the engines as “annoying” and suggests, for air pollution, as well as to switch to “electric buses, why not”. This goes in the direction of Pierre-Emmanuel Brunet, of the association Respire, who was alerted by parents of students. “Why not replace these cars with hydrogen buses, which the Metropolis is in the process of buying? He asks himself.
“The sidewalk rue des Charrettes is too narrow, parents have to rush into this part. Buses are parked there, engines on, cars are traveling too fast… ”Clearly,“ this station must be moved ”, he also believes. “In cities, we usually stick transport equipment. The bus station has its place next to the future SNCF station on the left bank, so put them together. And on the wasteland, there, there is no school nearby. ”
Reinforced marking
Florence Hédouin-Léautey, assistant in charge of schools and early childhood at the City, is well aware of these nuisances. However, it underlines that the said vehicles being “regional cars, which move in parts of the territory which are not served by the SNCF”, the Region is also decision maker. “We are finalizing a letter to him, as well as to the car operators, to remind him of good driving. It is obvious that you do not let your engine run empty, which causes discomfort to the windows and balconies of residents. “
The elected official recognizes that the municipality is not “able” to pedestrianize the rue des Charrettes, but that all the markings in this zone limited to 30 km / hour – she recalls – will be redone. . For the time being, and once again because the Region has a say in it, Florence Hédouin-Léautey considers that talking about moving the station is “premature”.
