After the crisis, what rebound for public transport? This will be one of the major themes of the National Public Transport Meetings organized from September 28 to 30 at the Meett de Toulouse Métropole in Aussonne. Some 8,000 public transport and mobility professionals will be gathered over the three days in the new exhibition center in the Toulouse metropolis, bombarded as the capital of French public transport for the occasion.

Expected rebound after Covid

The pandemic up to Covid hit public transport hard, in the Toulouse metropolitan area as elsewhere in France: drop to 95% of the attendance of the Tisséo network (from Monday to Sunday) during the first confinement in March April 2020 , 44% in June 2020, 32% in October 2020 during the second confinement. Attendance which has not really regained its pre-crisis rhythm.

Even if Jean-Michel Lattes, president of Tisséo Collectivités and Tisséo Ingénierie, who speaks of a “turnaround”, impatiently awaits the accounts for this start of the 2021 school year,: “I have the feeling that people are coming back to the city and to the Tisséo network. , the students are back too ”.

“Visitors can (re) discover the agglomeration’s mobility projects: 3rd metro line, the Téléo urban cable car, the extension of line B and the tramway, the renewal of the bus fleet by 2025, etc. […] examples of investments planned by 2030 on the network for a total amount of more than 4 billion euros “, declares Jean-Michel Lattes,” this is the opportunity to meet all the French players in mobility, compare our points of view and explore the latest innovations ”.

For the Toulouse public transport boss, it is time to “speed up public transport, with strong expectations for state investment; it will be a key to recovery ”. and to evoke “the necessary rebalancing of State aid in the region compared to the efforts made for (Greater) Paris”.

The boss of Tisséo, however, rejects any idea of ​​free transport (advocated and implemented by certain communities such as the city of Dunkirk): attendance has been spectacular thanks to an adapted offer ”.

Jean-Michel Lattes also rules out any “additional price increase” for the Tisséo network, despite the difficult period experienced in recent months.
