Ex-Landsmeerder Dries Roelvink gauges origins from the village about a possible merger with Amsterdam
Landsmeer could just be part of Amsterdam. The village has wanted to merge with a historic municipality for some time and Amsterdam has now announced that it is open to this in principle. Dries Roelvink, who has lived happily in the village, the mood.
Roelvink has lived for 15 years and both his sons are in the village. “In principle, not much has changed, something has been added,” says Dries as he enters the village. He notes that the Dane has been exchanged for an Albert Heijn.
The Landsmeer Municipal Executive has held talks with both Purmerend and Amsterdam. Both municipality have made in principle open to an administrative merger with the municipality. The will continue brooding on the idea this fall.
“We’re not going to be worth anything anymore”
“I think it has advantages. If we arrange it properly, it should be doable,” Wim says from his hairdresser’s chair. A resident who is shopping at a drugstore is less enthusiastic: “I am negative about it. We want to keep the greenery. Amsterdam is going to swallow us. We are going to be worth nothing more than and have no opinion of selfishness”, the resident told Dries .
Landsmeer has less than 12 thousand inhabitants and is in 18th place of the most expensive municipalities in the Netherlands. In addition to Amsterdam, Purmerend has also announced that it is in principle open to an administrative merger.
And what does Dries think about a possible merger? “If it is better for Landsmeer at the administrative level. There has been bickering in the past, so maybe it is good to join Amsterdam, yes.”
