1,399 new corona infections on Monday in Austria – Coronavirus Vienna
In the last 24 hours, almost 1,400 new infections with the corona virus were reported in Austria. Over 200 sick people are cared for in intensive care units.
1,399 new corona infections have been detected in Austria since Sunday. As always, the lower number at the beginning of the week is well below the average of the past seven days of 1,980 and also below that of the Monday of the previous week: At that time, one week after school started in the east and on the first day of school in western Austria, 1,543 new cases were counted. The seven-day incidence is now 155.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, down from 157.4 a week ago.
As of Monday, the Ministry of Health and the Interior reported 22,847 active cases across Austria, 366 fewer than on Sunday. In a weekly comparison, however, this means an increase of 1,594 currently infected people.
Another corona death reported
Another person has died in connection with Covid-19 since Sunday. On a seven-day average, there were eight deaths a day, and a total of 56 corona deaths were registered in the past week. So far, the pandemic has claimed 10,896 deaths in Austria. Since its inception, 122 people per 100,000 inhabitants have died from or with Covid-19.
The total number of those infected so far is now 725,434 confirmed cases. 691,691 people have recovered since then, 1,764 since Sunday.

The new infections in the federal states since yesterday’s report:
- Burgenland: 40
- Carinthia: 62
- Lower Austria: 262
- Upper Austria: 243
- Salzburg: 59
- Styria: 146
- Tyrol: 82
- Vorarlberg: 49
- Vienna: 456
At the beginning of the week, 839 patients with Covid-19 met in the hospital, six fewer than on Sunday. However, the pressure on the intensive care units has increased again: 219 people received intensive care because of a corona infection. So there have been seven additional intensive care patients since Sunday and an increase of 28 patients within one week.
Almost 60 percent of Austrians are fully immunized
However, only 2,309 vaccinations were given on Sunday. A week earlier it was 2,957. According to the e-vaccination pass, a total of 5,662,823 people received at least one partial vaccination, that is 63.4 percent of the population. 5,348,140 people and thus 59.9 percent of people in Austria are considered fully immunized.
