Another extension of the tram network in Prague. DPP has a permit for the track to the Na Dědině housing estate
The new line will cost more than a billion, the first trams are to run on it at the end of 2023.
Next year, the tram network in Prague will start to grow by another more than two kilometers. Dopravní podnik hl. The City of Prague (DPP) already has a valid building permit for the new tram line Divoká Šárka – Na Dědině housing estate.
DPP is going to announce a public contract for a contractor this year, it will build next year. The new track will have a total of 2.3 km. There will be five pairs of stops on it and will end with the Dědinská loop at the intersection of Drnovská and Dědinská streets.
Along the line from Barrandov to Holyně and from the Prague Uprising to Pankrác, this is another construction that has started to be built in the last year (in the case of Pankrác, it is already done). DPP is preparing to start construction of the Modřany – Libuš tram line in the spring of next year, and is looking for a contractor for the Dvorecký Bridge. “Prague is experiencing a tram boom. After years of treading, new tracks are finally being built in Prague, “ said Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr.
New alleys along the track
The loops under the South Junction can also be considered a new line. The tram line and the loop are being created in connection with the modernization of the 4th corridor and the construction of a new transfer hub Zahradní Město not far from here at the intersection of Průběžná Street and the corridor. Preparations for the extension of the tram line from Kobylis to Zdib in the Central Bohemian Region are also underway. It has already successfully passed the environmental impact assessment. A tram from Kobylis to Bohnice is also being prepared. The track on Wenceslas Square and the new tram connection to the Strahov dormitories already have specific outlines. Prague expects to receive a European subsidy for higher costs for new tram lines.
DPP modified the project at the line to Dědina, planting two completely new alleys with more than 170 trees along the route. The construction should be completed within 19 months of signing the contract. “If we are told to start construction next March, the first passengers could ride on the new line at the end of 2023, “ said Petr Witowski, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of DPP. In addition to the existing housing estate, the new line is also intended to serve the inhabitants of new residential projects, which are currently being developed between Drnovská Street and the Prague Ring Road. “And in the future, certainly for the Nová Ruzyně development area, which is directly adjacent to the new line, from Vlastina Street,“Added Witowski.”
The current estimated cost of the new line is 1,080 million crowns, most of which should pay a European subsidy.
Debates about the new track have been running since the 1970s
The construction of the tram line in Na Dědině has been planned since the mid-1970s, but so far. “It is the longest-prepared tram line in the modern history of Prague and I firmly believe that this title will remain, “ said Jan Šurovský, Member of the Board of Directors of DPP and Technical Director of DPP – Surface. After the commissioning of the line, the total capacity of public transport will increase here, despite the reduction of bus connections. “Ultimately, traffic noise will be reduced, as trams are paradoxically subject to stricter limits in this area than for road transport., ”Added Šurovský.
The new tram line to Dědina will start behind the current Divoká Šárka loop, which will remain in operation and along Evropská will continue to the intersection with Vlastina Street, where it will turn left. After the intersection of Vlastina and U Silnice Street, the tram line will run in a common corridor with car traffic. From the intersection with U Silnice Street to the intersection with Drnovská Street, Vlastina Street will get a new urban look thanks to the construction of the line. In the middle of the street there will be a tree line, a grassed tram line, car lanes and places for longitudinal parking from it to both edges. Thanks to this arrangement, Vlastina Street is slightly widening in a southerly direction in accordance with the zoning plan and the British part of the neighboring complex administered by the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic.
At the end of Vlastina Street, the new line will turn right into Drnovská Street, along which it will lead on the left side to the Dědinská loop, where it will end. Smyčka Dědinská will be located in the direction from the center to the left of Drnovská Street, at the intersection with the street of the same name, or not far from the current bus stops Dlouhá Míle.
New stops on the track
There will be five stops on the line
• Divoká Šárka – on Evropská street between the intersections with Libocká and Vlastina streets,
• Vlastina – in front of the intersection of Vlastina and U Silnice streets,
• Housing estate in Dědina – near the buildings of the shopping center and the Czech Post
• Ciolkovského – in front of the intersection with the street of the same name and
• Dědinská – final at the turning point of the same name.
In the section between the Sídliště na Dědině and Ciolkovského stops, new trees will be planted in the middle of the street; in the rest of Vlastina, DPP Street will preserve the existing tree line to the maximum extent during construction. The new tree line will also be in the final section between Drnovská Street and the tram line. As part of the construction of the tram line, DPP will plant more than 170 new trees at Dědina.
