Prague 7 has opened a new connection between the railway station and the exhibition center in Holešovice
Bob: Well, I’m not saying that you’re generally wrong, but it can also be in other places in Prague … 🙂 I sometimes drive through the area, but I’m kind of around and I haven’t drove right here yet, but sometimes I might try and see …
But to other specific places you write – Captain Jaroš’s Embankment and Hlávek Bridge. You’re right that some autistic people (it’s not an insult, that’s Italian) still have a lot of passion somewhere – and in fact they didn’t even get striped, they just narrowed down a bit, somewhere they painted red, somewhere they could ( maybe somewhere too much) baliset …
But when I try to see it there in a bit complex way – there aren’t really many cyclists in traffic right on the Hlávka bridge – most of them prefer to ride on that one legalized sidewalk. It is nicely connected to the legalized sidewalk on Captain Jaroš’s Embankment. The intersection with the Dukelské hrdiny class seemed so strange to me, but I guess it couldn’t have been much better years ago. Most of all, I’ve always been annoyed by the long wait. I appreciated it a lot when last year there was a bike crossing in front of the tax office (I think the office of the Prague 7 district used to be there). It occurs to me that I will see the green sooner – and when he arrives from Hlávek Bridge, I will get to the second street of the NKJ and I can comfortably turn into the Dukelské hrdiny and either I usually continue up Kostelní, or I go towards Stromovka. In the opposite direction, this new crossing / crossing is also quite suitable, precisely because, thanks to it, one can avoid the “strange” intersection.
I very much appreciate the cycle lanes at the NKJ, which are a possible project from this side of the Hlávka bridge to Holešovice. So I used to ride a bike there before, but now it’s better, because even the drivers who keep saying that they “never saw the cyclist there” (maybe they have a vision problem and the question is whether they should have a driver’s license at all), they will say that someone could show up there, so then they are not so surprised. The alternative was the underpass area under the bridge, where it looked all sorts of things and sometimes they were afraid to ride a bike there. And I don’t even know if it was legalized there at all for the passage. On the contrary, it’s also nice … It’s just that the Bubny railway station makes a big barrier there and there aren’t many opportunities to stretch around it from Letná to Holešovice, or vice versa. Other options are U Výstaviště or Železničářů streets.
One-way trips are often hell, but I don’t like it that much at Letná. I also went directly to the Trade Fair a few times – it climbs there nicely, it’s so gradual, since the strip is painted there it seems even more cool to me. Who doesn’t dare there – I see a lot of cyclists on Milady Horáková. There is not much traffic, especially the trams. I don’t have to breathe on my back by the tram either, but it’s fine in the downward direction, the trams are holding me back (especially at the stations).
And another good alternative is Kostelní. It is two-way, it also rises relatively well – the steepest is perhaps right at the beginning, but then on to Letná it’s quite cool and I ride there even on heavier gears …
Which one-way directions bother you the most there, resp. which ones would you suggest to turn or direction for cyclists in order to improve your trip? I really ask out of curiosity, maybe I would be inspired and find other possible passages through this area …
If you want a real one-way hell, then I recommend Prague 2. There, if you want to get from the forecourt of the Nuselský Bridge and from Charles further to Vinohrady, then legally it is no different than on the highway …
