An immersive exhibition and experience for all generations The World of Banksy in the consecrated church of St. Michael the Archangel, right next to the Old Town Square. Listen to more about the show in the 27th episode of the podcast KulTýden.
It is an exhibition of visualizations of the works of one of the most mysterious artists of all time with the creative pseudonym Banksy. The exhibition, which brings together the famous but also unknown Banksy together with young Prague artists, will enliven the street atmosphere inside this unique space.
The exhibition is an extended exhibition that took place in the summer and autumn of 2020 in Prague’s Mánes – the exhibition presents more than 115 of the most famous motifs in both printed versions and artistic realizations of wall graffiti.
At the exhibition you will find a number of new motifs that were not seen in Mánes, supplemented by several video projections. The classic concept of the exhibition “The World of Banksy” has been completely changed. You can see for yourself in Prague, where you will be the first in the world to be given a glimpse into our new digital concept.
Banksy is the world’s most famous graffiti artist, transforming the street into gigantic screens across the world, from London to New York, from Berlin to Timbuktu, from Gaza to Tokyo. He is a secret hero who deliberately avoids controlled publicity and disclosure of his identity, which is a typical sign of today’s digital age, in which, on the contrary, there is maximum visibility. Banksy, who has been involved in art graffiti since the 1990s, has quickly succeeded in creating his own myths with his so-called “against everyone” approach and hiding his own identity.
Under this mysterious veil, his anti-capitalist, anti-war and anti-authority work quickly becomes, day by day, a unique sensation. While to some his approach of boldly criticizing paintings, politics, or even art and museums supporting popular culture seemed like a simple revolution, most began to find a consequence and a deeper meaning in his work.
