The construction of the VRT between Přerov and Ostrava will begin in 2025, shortening the journey to Prague by 15 minutes
Between Ostrava and Prague, three trains per hour are to run on the high-speed line.
After the completion of the first section of the high-speed line (VRT) from Přerov to Ostrava, the train journey time from Prague is to be reduced by fifteen minutes. This follows from the presentation of the plans of the Railway Administration in the Moravian-Silesian Region. The state is to begin in 2025.
The Railway Administration’s high-speed line preparation team presented the project of a new line called VRT Moravská Brána to representatives of the Moravian-Silesian Region yesterday (the presentation can be downloaded here). After the completion of the line from Prague to Brno and Přerov, the travel time from Prague to Ostrava is to be reduced to 1 hour and 35 minutes. “Shortening the travel time between Ostrava, Brno and the city of Prague will significantly increase the mobility of the region’s inhabitants. This will result in a more efficient distribution of economic prosperity. Improving the transport accessibility of the regions will thus enable their further development, “ The Railway Administration said in a press release.
The section in the Moravian-Silesian Region is one of the less problematic high-speed railway projects, it will largely lead next to the existing corridor, which no longer has sufficient capacity. In part, the new line will run along the motorway.
The competition for designers has been running since September
The Railway Administration is preparing to submit a feasibility study for this route in the coming months for approval by the Central Commission of the Ministry of Transport. There is also a competition for the preparation of documentation for land management and documentation for the EIA process (environmental impact assessment), to be agreed in the autumn. The competition has been running since last September.
The route is to be built at a speed of 320 km / h. “Its appearance does not differ significantly from the existing lines. Their added value is precisely the speed that can be achieved through direct tracing,“Said the Railway Administration.
The new trains will serve not only the regional city of Ostrava, but also other parts of the region. The possibility of crossing fast trains between railway networks in the future will also allow connections to Havířov or Frýdek-Místek.
The initial draft of the feasibility study envisages three trains per hour between Ostrava and Prague. One will be the Sprinter category with the possibility of extension to Frýdek-Místek. The second is to be express via Brno, the other via Olomouc on the current route. He can be taken to Havířov.
According to the Czech Television Agency, Deputy Governor of Moravia-Silesia Radek Podka (ANO) had two points to cross the border into Poland. “Maybe in two or three years we will know exactly where the track will lead and the shutter may open and Bohumín may start building,“Said Podstawka.
