The first tram in its new form set off for the streets of Prague. Others will be recolored during repairs
On Wednesday, Praguers may encounter the Škoda 14T in a new gray-red form for the first time on tram line number 17. In the new design, the tram has both faces painted and the rest is made of stickers. When repairing trams, the transport company will actually paint like this.
The tram in new colors will leave the depot in Kobylisy. It will also appear on lines 3, 8 and 10 in the coming weeks.
The new look of public transport cars was approved by Prague councilors last August, and one bus is already running in new colors in Prague. The design competition cost two million crowns and was won by the Superlative works studio. The repainting itself will be done during repairs and will not cost anything extra.
“The tram underwent another repair, so the new paint or sticker would be made anyway. So we are going in exactly the direction we indicated when we announced the results of the design competition, “said the mayor’s deputy for transport, Adam Scheinherr (Prague himself).
The exact plan for how the trams will be repainted is not set. Only those that need to be repaired receive a new design. “We have a schedule for buses. For trams, it will depend on how they go to the repair, so that it doesn’t cost any extra money,” said Petr Witowski, CEO of the transport company.
In the future, each car will have stickers on its fronts and stickers on the sides. This is because if there is an advertisement on the tram, then when removing it, the paintwork would be damaged and repainted would be more expensive. At the same time, all parts on the car are color-matched so that the color does not overlap more than one of them. “We made sure that the parts were arranged in color so that we had no work to do during maintenance and repairs,” said Witowski.
In the case of buses, the Prague transport company has already issued contracts for the purchase of new cars, provided that they are shown in new colors. “I think at the end of the year we will have the first swallows that will start coming in these colors,” Witowski added. All buses will be in a new form within about ten years.
In the past, the city management justified the change mainly by the fact that the Prague integrated transport system gradually expands motorways throughout the Central Bohemian Region, and at the same time is a good time to unify the appearance of cars in the whole system. a Prague Integrated Transport ticket is valid.
