Prague Airport is moving aircraft to a shorter runway. You can watch the reconstruction, takeoffs and landings on SlowTV – Živě.cz
Air traffic at Prague Airport is transferred from the main runway to the secondary runway for more than two months on 30.12. The reason is the planned maintenance of the 06/24 tracks, which will last until July. Current events at the airport can be watched live on Internet TV Mall.tv, including infographics showing upcoming arrivals and departures.
Although the pandemic has drastically reduced the number of flights handled by Prague Airport, interest in aircraft tracking is constantly growing. This is also shown by the viewership numbers of live broadcasts, which Mall.tv launched in February 2019. Footage from two cameras aimed at the main track 24/06 has had over 4.6 million views since the launch of online broadcasting and their popularity is growing in our country and abroad.
Take-offs and landings on shorter runways
However, the main runway is now undergoing technical and construction maintenance in order to increase operational safety. For example, the anti-skid properties of the road on the track will be modified by grinding, but also the terrain around the runway will be modified. The events on this runway have been monitored for over 6 years by a camera located near the airport.

What are runways called?
The designation of runways is based on the direction in which the runway was built. The magnetic direction (in the case of path 12/30 it is eg 120 °) is divided by ten. The opposite direction is then always rotated 180 °. Therefore, the path is indicated by the number 12/30 (the difference between the numbers is always 18). There are 18 possible combinations of runway markings, from 01/19 to 18/36.
