Blue locomotive at the head of a yellow train. Czech Railways helps RegioJet on the route Prague – Ostrava
The two-day lease of Czech Railways locomotives ends today.
Some of the RegioJet trains between Prague and Ostrava have been at the head of Czech Railways locomotives since yesterday. The private carrier agreed on an operating loan for the 150,213 locomotive. It is intended to cover the operational needs of RegioJet. Production ends today.
“Such assistance among carriers is common and we have previously cooperated in a similar way with ČD and other carriers. RegioJet also routinely lends its locomotives to other carriers to secure the running of their trains,“Said RegioJet spokesman Aleš Ondrůj. “For railway fans, this may be an opportunity to capture an unconventional combination of vehicles from several carriers on a single line,“Ondrůj added.
The original plans provided for the deployment of the locomotive by Friday, and according to Ondrůj, the lease is to end today. Currently it can be seen on the route 1007 (departure from Prague 11:50) and 1016 (16:24 departure from Havířov)
Last year, Czech Railways lent the same type of locomotive to RegioJet; in the past, the carrier rented traction vehicles from ČD Cargo. The then premiere of the locomotive of a state carrier at the head of a private company’s trains caused criticism from some trade unionists. For České dráhy, however, it is a source of income for renting machines that would otherwise still be shut down at the depot.
