O2 will also switch off 3G internet. In Prague in May
O2 planned to switch off the 3G signal in three phases. Prague will be the first to shut up on 31 May, and as of 31 August, third-generation mobile networks will not be available in the Zlín and Olomouc regions. In all other locations of our republic, the shutdown is scheduled for November 30.
“Customers who use 3G dating will be notified of this change by SMS and e-mail. However, most customers do not even notice the change in technology. Their phone automatically switches to the 2G network when calling and receiving and sending SMS. If customers want to use fast mobile data, all they need is a SIM card and a mobile phone that support the 4G network, “said Blanka Vokounová from the operator’s press department.
People can easily check if their SIM card or 4G-enabled device offers. Within O2, all you have to do is dial the code * 444 * # on your mobile phone.
Other domestic operators are planning to switch off 3G transmitters in the near future. It is necessary for the 5G Internet to be more widespread. Just for comparison, in third generation mobile networks the internet speed reaches 10 Mbps, in the case of 5G it is up to 1000 Mbps.
Vodafone was the first car in the Czech Republic to have a 3G signal at the end of March – next week on Wednesday. “People are using the Internet more and more in their mobile phones and we want to provide them with a sufficiently high-quality connection, which is why we are switching off 3G. Today, we can use such released frequencies much better and more efficiently in the networks of modern generations. This means 4G, but mainly the latest 5G network, “explained Slavomír Slanina, Vodafone’s Network Development Director.
According to him, only 1% of people use third-generation mobile networks. However, the exact representatives did not specify how many customers this represented.
